There were cars speeding, running red lights
Police chases, sirens and fights
roads were ragged and pungent air thick
smells of exhaust and local bums piss
everywhere you went someone begging for money
absolutely nothing here seemed laughable or funny
they didn't care
trying to forget their pain
There were children running in the streets without their shoes
Sagging diapers soaked with urine and feces there parents who
sat on corners and stoops with quart bottles in their hands
screaming "get out the street Jamal" with absolutely no plans
they didn't care
trying to numb their pain
like smoke filled crack houses going down,
like tent city, and shantytown
whole communities living on vacant lots or under overpasses
How long will this last....God how long will this last
the names change but the pain is the same
like Carol City is now Miami Gardens
Ain't no Gardens there I beg your pardon
do they care
Will they ever forget the pain
Liberty City infested with dope
have they lost all hope?
tracks of there tears while tracks on their arms
city in fear no peace and no calm
just death and degradation all around
children are dying babies on the ground
Who? I ask, will care
and remember their pain.
