a working mans hands
were made to
hold a woman
to
carry a child
but still
so many seem to
drop the ball
most kids
with less than nuclear homes
have the atomic task
of over compensating
and my Sisyphusian task
is to try and be a father
to those
without
but when my son
who was the same age as me
said happy fathers day
I was confused
since out of all the words
I thought I knew
that was the most alien
its like on the path
to be a man
I forgot what
a man’s real job is
I was affected to say the least
not because of the statement
but b/c I feel I earned it
I tried instilling in him
what I wished I was taught
instead of stumbled into
like
"when writing poetry
cry through your pen, and
bleed onto the page"
or
"lord pleas forgive all the sins that
I did and all of those in my head that
I’m dying to commit"
but its the little *bleep*
"loyalty,
knowledge always,
make love to your woman like you hate her so
the passion remains"
and always
"treat everyone as equals"
but aside from the knowledge
I instilled in him
he instilled empathy in me
and then the Grinch`s small heart
grew three sizes that day
I really really liked this poem! I read it a couple of times. The word empathy reminds me of my mother and I too hope to instill this in my children. Much props and keep that penn flowin!!!!!!!!! 01/23/2007
