Where did you get those sad eyes? Have you ever looked to the sky?
Once your eyes were hopefully bright, when did the dance of life turn into fright?
When did the dance turn to worry, and your life became a flurry?
Maybe when you lost your mother, or the incarceration of your brother?
Or maybe when your father turned to booze, is that when your love for life started to loose?
Living with your Aunt you could never please? She loved you and tried but it didn't come easy.
Was it when you were sixteen and dropped out of school and changed your scene?
Maybe when the drug got into your vein, is that when you first felt the pain?
Or was it the baby you had to give away? Being born addicted wasn't its choice to say.
Did the sadness appear when you lived on the streets, the garbage cans were your only source of eats?
Crouched in cold alley's with buildings of brick, is that when you decided to start turning tricks?
How much does it take for sad eyes to appear, you've been away from home for how many years?
You've seen your friends die from aids, one, in your arms, a bed of comfort you made.
The worry of aids is on your mind, and adds torment to the daily grind.
There is a hunger deep within your soul, the way you live makes you look ill and old.
My friend, raise your sad eyes up to God, He will bless the ground you trod.
Everyone has the same chance with Him, all you have to do is ask, that is where it begins.
Just look toward the sky and begin to pray, then your sad eyes will go away.
